OnLive had a Steam-related service called Cloudlift. Essentially, for any Steam game that you owned, you could play through OnLive via Cloudlift, so long as OnLive had that game in their catalogue. Dead Island was in the OnLive catalogue, and it always seemed like people were playing it, up until OnLive was axed.

The abilities for weapons were a lot better in Riptide. If you level up your characters on Dead Island, you can transfer them over to Riptide. I think the story is a lot better in the Original.
