BTW, the automatic setting doesn't preclude manual use of the retarder. You can still turn it on/off on long grades. I'm not living the truck experience either; I find the sequential gearbox makes it too difficult to skip gears while making it way too easy to get lost in them. Automatic is easier to drive with a controller.
Proper Use of Retarders in ETS2. Retarders are invaluable tools in ETS2 for maintaining control of our heavy trucks on downward slopes and at cruising speed. Here are tips on using them effectively: Activate retarder first before service brakes when slowing from high speed – this avoids sudden deceleration.
It would be great if there was a 2 or 3 km/h tolerance option in addition to the current options. edit. As a workaround, you can set a custom CC tolerance from the config.cfg file located in C:\Users\\Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\profiles\. Just change the value of g_cruise_control_smart to the km/h value you want.
Hello, I play everything simulated and I really like it. Now I want to step up my game and become a more hardcore trucker. I know the retarder is a gearbox brake & engine of course an engine brake (I'm used to use the "engine braken" IRL on cars but that's just switching to a lower gear, in here it is different). Any recommendations on how to use them properly?
