Finally, check the serial number on the guitar and consult a Martin serial number database to narrow down the year it was produced and, from there, the model. C.F. Martin, a musical instrument company based in the United States, was founded in 1835 as a manufacturer of classical guitars.
The guitar was manufactured in 1987. When you look up the serial number in Gruhn’s Guide, you will see that the first letter is E and the second letter is 87. To put it another way, a 1987 guitar’s serial number refers to it. Let’s take a look at a serial number that begins with G.
I am trying to obtain the age of my alto saxophone. It is inscribed on the bell, The Martin Alto, ELKHART-IND-USA. The bell is beautifully engraved with a floral pattern. Sigma series – The serial number is located on the frame under the front of the handgun. SW99 – The serial number is located on the frame at the rear of the pistol. The Serial contains letter prefixes and numbers which are significant in outlining the manufacturing date. We have reviewed the numbers by the year of issue.

Serial numbers. I have come into possession of an old guitar. The brand inside reads C.F. Martin & Company Nazareth Penn. D-28. The 8 is rather distorted, and looks a little like a 3, but it is an 8. the serial number is 2881344. I know that this is too large for Martin, so what is the deal here. Martin had a special custom-made display case fabricated to house the instrument for the show. #1,000,000 is definitely not for sale and will stay in the Martin Museum, but we do have the D-100 limited edition that is a very similar replica.
